THE DIVA RODEO STORY
Captain Coon's wife Gloria passed away due to breast cancer in May of 2015. Family, friends, and the community all came together to help Captain Coon with medical and other expenses. Captain Coon and his children were all overwhelmed with the love and support they received during the most difficult time in their lives. Captain Coon's niece Amy Schouest Ledet who played a huge role in the fundraising efforts suggested that they start a ladies fishing rodeo to use his love of fishing to help others and to help the family heal as well. So the Diva Rodeo began! In 2016 the First Annual Diva Rodeo was held in memory of Gloria Schouest. In its first year the rodeo proceeds were used to help one local breast cancer patient. In 2017 the Second Annual Diva Rodeo more than doubled its proceeds and three local breast cancer patients received help. The goal is to continue to grow and help more breast cancer patients every year through the combined community efforts of individuals and businesses.

The Gloria Schouest Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization that raises money for local breast cancer patients through community involvement in our ladies fishing rodeo. The Tradewinds of Cocodrie's Annual Diva Rodeo is our main fundraising event and it brings in proceeds through the sale of rodeo tickets with tee shirts, as well as plate lunches, drinks and Diva and breast cancer awareness themed items It also offers a silent and a live auction on the rodeo weekend. It awards over forty fishing trophies and lots of door prizes There is also a Team Spirit Contest and live entertainment. This year we will have DJ Rhett on Saturday night and Seabrook Band on Sunday! We will have seafood plate lunches Friday night, pulled pork plate lunches on Saturday and plate lunches prepared by Tony Chachere on Sunday! Donations to the Gloria Schouest Memorial Fund are accepted year round at any South Louisiana Bank. CAPTAIN COON AND GLORIA
Gloria Schouest was not a Diva! Anyone who knew her would tell you she was happiest in jeans and tee shirt spending time with her family. She didn't like attention or having her picture taken! She never would have chosen to be the center of a rodeo! But we know that because of her kind heart and generous nature she would be so proud of what the Diva Rodeo represents and the good it is doing for not only the ladies it helps but for our community and our family. Gloria was married to Captain Coon for forty-one years and together they had a wonderful life and family. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and did any and everything she could for her family. She helped Captain Coon become Captain Coon by studying with him for his Captain's license when he decided to go into the charter business. She booked charters and answered questions and gave directions to anyone who called back in the days before cell phones and GPS! Anyone who ever ordered Coon Pop lures should know they were more than likely painted and mailed out to you by Gloria! She loved her family more than anything and loved spending time with them. Gloria truly loved her family for who they were and was happy as long as they were happy. She was always cooking and picking up special treats for her grandchildren. She knew everyone's likes and dislikes and always made everyone feel loved and special. Some of our greatest memories are of our many hunting and fishing trips all together. She was a wonderful and amazing woman. She was funny and quick witted and generous and unselfish. She is loved and missed by everyone who knew her. We are grateful to everyone who takes part in supporting the Gloria Schouest Memorial Fund and the Diva Rodeo in memory of Gloria Schouest.
